Over the years, I've really enjoyed photographing the people and culture that make life more interesting. However, in 2020 and 2021, I made a lot fewer of such photos for obvious reasons. In 2022, I was able to do more of that kind of photography, and was reminded how much I enjoy it. So in this post, I'll share my favorite portraiture and culture images from 2022. In addition, I've included an update on our 3-month winter adventure and two images from the stormy coast at Cape Disappointment. Below is a sampling of my 2022 Favs and the link to the full portfolio on my website. Thanks for viewing!
Winter Adventure Update
We're now a month into our 3 month winter adventure in our travel trailer. We've come down the coast of Washington, Oregon and California on 101, and are currently in Pismo Beach in California's Central Coast. The first two weeks was spent in the deep end of the Atmospheric River. We've never experienced rain like we did during that time. But it made for some fantastic storm images.
We spent almost a week in the Redwoods of northern California. Sadly, the area has suffered badly from the storms. All the parks and beaches were closed, except for the Lady Bird Grove in Redwoods National Park. We walked and photographed along the loop trail, witnessing significant destruction. The trail was littered with debris, and lots of downed trees in the forest.
We then spent a few days in the Sonoma and Napa wine country, visiting friends and exploring. One of those friends manages a winery and vineyard in Napa Valley which was struck by wildfire two years ago. The winery and their home burned, as well as a significant part of the vineyard. Our friends gave us a very sad tour of the property, and showed us how they are bringing the vineyard back to life.
From Sonoma, we went to the Central Coast visiting friends and family, and exploring the wine country and the coast. It was sunny and warm, but the area has also been heavily impacted by the storms that struck California in early January. We'll be here a couple more days and then go to the Mojave Desert in southern California. Stay tuned for another update.
