Long Gone & Forgotten
Thousands of psychiatric patients were housed at the Northern State Hospital near Sedro Wooley, WA from 1913 until it was closed in 1972. 1,487 of those patients never left and remain interred in the grounds of the hospital. Much of the hospital was abandoned when it closed in 1972 and is now in a very decrepit state of decay. Sadly, the buildings are closed, but can be toured along the "Historic Route" on the grounds. The interiors can be photographed through the windows. Poking a lens through the many broken panes reveals a lot of very textural decay and dark mystery, and results in very creepy photographs that never show the ghosts the must lurk inside. But you can feel their presence.
